Online Executive Functioning Course for Teens

8 Weeks to Greater Focus, Motivation, and Emotional Balance

Facilitator: Sarah Shore, MS
Format: Live online small-group course (Zoom)
Ages: 13–15 and 15–17
Cost: $395

What This Course Is

This 8-week online course helps teens move from feeling overwhelmed and disorganized to feeling more grounded, structured, and confident.

We focus on two core habits that change everything:

  • Consistent use of a personalized planner and organizational system

  • A weekly “preview and planning” routine to review their time, plan ahead, and reduce stress

Along the way, teens learn how their brain and nervous system respond to stress, what executive functioning actually is, and how to use practical tools to get unstuck when motivation or focus collapses.

Who This Course Is For

This course is designed for bright, capable teens who:

  • Struggle to stay organized or keep track of assignments

  • Procrastinate or have trouble getting started

  • Feel overwhelmed, anxious, or shut down when things pile up

  • Want to feel more in control of their time and emotions

Parents often describe these teens as “smart but scattered.”  This course gives them a clear roadmap and the skills to use it.

What Teens Will Learn

By the end of the 8 weeks, participants will:

  • Use a planner and organizational system that fits their brain and preferences

  • Keep an active time log so they can see where their time really goes

  • Follow a Weekly Preview routine to plan their week, anticipate busy periods, and protect downtime

  • Understand the pillars of executive functioning (attention, organization, planning, flexibility, etc.) and have go-to strategies for each

  • Recognize when their executive functioning is impaired (overwhelm, shutdown, spinning) and choose a personalized remedy

  • Build a nervous system regulation toolkit of 3–5 techniques that reliably calm and refocus them

The goal is not perfection. The goal is a repeatable structure they can trust and return to.

How the Course Works

  • Length: 8 weeks

  • Format: Live, interactive sessions on Zoom

  • Schedule:

    • Tuesdays (ages 13–15) – 6:00–7:00 PM ET

    • Wednesdays (ages 15–17) – 6:00–7:00 PM ET

  • Group Size: Limited to 10 teens per cohort

  • Includes:

    • Course workbook and planner materials

    • Weekly brief parent summaries

    • Final reflection on progress and next steps

This is structured like a class, but feels like a supportive small-group coaching experience.

Weekly Snapshot

Weeks 1–2: Build Your System

  • Set up a personalized planner and organizational system

  • Begin an 8-week time log

  • Learn how stress and overwhelm affect focus and follow-through

Weeks 3–4: Beat Avoidance & Build Momentum

  • Understand why starting is so hard — even when you care

  • Learn specific strategies for task initiation and motivation

  • Continue practicing Weekly Preview and adjusting the planner system

Weeks 5–6: Planning, Balance & Weekly Rhythm

  • Use time logs to see where time and energy are getting lost

  • Create a weekly rhythm that balances school, activities, and rest

  • Practice planning the week in a way that feels realistic and doable

Weeks 7–8: Integration & Personalized Toolkit

  • Learn and name the main executive functioning pillars and how to support each one

  • Match common problems (“I’m stuck,” “I forgot,” “I’m overwhelmed”) with tools that actually help

  • Finalize a Personal Executive Function & Regulation Plan that teens can keep using after the course ends

Throughout the course, we also practice nervous system regulation each week, so teens can notice when they are overloaded and know how to reset.

What Parents Can Expect

By the end of the course, most parents notice that their teen:

  • Has a clearer sense of where their time goes

  • Has more structure for managing schoolwork and responsibilities

  • Can name when they are overwhelmed and what helps them reset

  • Feels more capable and hopeful about managing demands

Parents receive short updates summarizing what we covered each week, along with suggestions for gentle support at home.
